The Anambra State Police Command has condemned the alleged brutal abuse of a seven-year-old girl, Oluebube Ofoma, in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The Command also confirmed the arrest of the girl’s mother, Mrs Ogechi Ofoma, 32, following the rescue of the child by community security personnel and concerned residents.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the incident was reported to the Command on the evening of September 13, 2026.
Ikenga said preliminary information indicated that the seven-year-old was allegedly subjected to severe physical abuse, resulting in serious bodily injuries.
He added that the injuries were reportedly inflicted with a hot knife.
The Police spokesman said security personnel from Ibollo Community, Awada-Obosi, alongside concerned residents, intervened after becoming aware of the alleged abuse, rescued the child and facilitated the arrest of the suspect.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, condemned the alleged treatment of the child and vowed that the circumstances surrounding the incident would be thoroughly investigated.
The CP has also commenced collaboration with the Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare to secure urgent medical attention, protection and necessary welfare support for the victim.
The Command commended the Ibollo Community security personnel and residents for their vigilance and prompt intervention, noting that their action helped prevent further harm to the child.
The Police assured that the investigation would be conducted professionally and without compromise, stressing that the welfare, safety and best interests of the child remained paramount.
The Command further said it would continue to work with relevant government agencies and stakeholders to protect vulnerable persons and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the full weight of the law.
